Where's My Family?

This was Frame On Frame's first film of the year. Outdoors in January anything could happen, yet the freezing weather did not prevent an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiam amongst crew and cast. Come rain or shine we were ready for the shoot.

We arrived on set on time the morning after doing the hotel shoot which took place the evening before. Little did we know what was in store for us. The day went well and we were blessed with fabulous weather. It was a perfect winters day although the sun was a little too bright at times. The evening came and we all went for dinner at a local restaurant. The food was great and after a few hours we all went off to bed.

In the early hours of the morning my phone rang.  It was Morrrison, "I am not well, I think I've got food poisoning."  I got myself dressed and travelled to the hotel beginning to feel unwell myself. On arrival I discovered that Morrison was not the only person who was sick. What a tough bunch the crew and cast were as they said they were willing to carry on with the shoot. It wasn't to be however, another problem came our way. A full snow storm had hit the south coast and I had to call the whole thing off and go home with only half a film.

Two weeks later were were back but we had to shoot the whole thing again. One of the actors had been bitten on the face by a dog a few days before the first shoot. By the time of the second shoot the scar on his face had healed wonderfully but continuity would have been a major problem. But hey, we had fun. The cast and crew were great and the weather worked in our favour .

This was one of the most enjoyable short films I have directed. I hope you will enjoy it too. And remember, everyone wants to be loved, and we all need a family!

Having studied English Literature at Universtity I am well accustomed to writing analytical essays. I have also written a number of short stories and even had a go a poetry. 'Where's My Family' however, is the first screenplay I have written and it has been by far the most challenging yet rewarding experience of them all.

For the past 7 years I have worked closely with both adults and children with learning disabilities. In this time I have been made aware that these people are often avoided and feared because they are misunderstood. In this time I have also discovered that these are some of the most generous, loving and gentle people I have come across and essentially they have the same core values as everyone else. They want to be loved and to feel a sense of belonging.

All the characters in this film are fictional. I have studied various conditions which have been of particular interest to me however - Echolalia, Autism, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Anxiety Disorder - and have hopefully created believable, endearing characters whom you, the audience, will enjoy watching.

'Where's My Family?' is not peppered with dramatic twists and turns. It is a glimpse into the lives of this extraordinary group of people as they embark upon a weekend break. We also follow the emotional journey of a carer, Katie, who is new to the care industry and struggling to find her feet. Enjoy!
