Synopsis
Babbage is a short film that introduces us to the inventor and prolific thinker Charles Babbage, a man both famous for inventing the first computer and failing to build it. The film takes place at a dinner somewhere in the early Victorian period. Babbage introduces the guests to us one by one, each playing a significant role in the colourful life of our host. The conversation ranges from topical debate to pleasant reminiscences until we are plunged into Babbage's isolation and despair as he reveals to the audience that the guests are fragmented memories of those he loved and lost, many of them never met, never spoke. Babbage's final chapter is one of solitude and perceived failure, an uncelebrated genius who deserves a place in history.

Directors Statement
"Nocturne was an ambitious first film to direct as it required the creation of a bygone era of Edwardian England. We shot on location in Leicester, making use of its historic stone cobbled streets for the external scenes and using an Edwardian terrace house to shoot the interior scenes. Props were key to add a sense of historic realism, in particular the use of clocks and pocket watches, which were integral to the storyline.
The professionalism of the cast helped bring to life the challenges of the script, such as the Edwardian dialogue and a pivotal scene which was acted entirely in mime. Philip Hughes as the watchsmith created a performance both quirky and edgy, and Lexy Howe delivered a subtle performance that embodied the character of an Edwardian seamstress.
Filmed in high definition, Trevor Hughes and Claire Barker created a look and feel to Nocturne that is both historical and surreal. The dream-scene in particular required very precise lighting setups, and the Frame on Frame team met these challenges with skill. Arun Rama Varma brought his experience from Bollywood films to record the sound on Nocturne, capturing both the location sound and dubbing in post production.
The final piece to the puzzle was provided by Frame on Frame in post production. Trevor Hughes worked tirelessly in the editing suite to condense the hours of raw footage into the 12 minutes of Nocturne. The overall result is a film which aims to capture the imagination of the viewer and invite them into the world of the watchsmith."

Post-production: Nocturne was edited on Final Cut Pro, which allowed the addition of special effects (such as the bottle materialising as if by magic on the dinner table during the dream scene). Using Final Cut Pro also meant that the 'Colour' program could be used to grade the film, which created a more balanced look to the film rather than high white / black contrast that initially showed up on the raw footage.
Now complete, Nocturne is being launched onto the festival circuit - starting out it Hollyshort Los Angeles
The Production Manger/Producer/The Boyfriend
The production of Nocturne went smoothly and on budget. In total the production cost was approximately £1000. Nocturne was shot over three days with approximately 3 months of preplanning. The success of completing Nocturne on time and on budget comes down to the professionalism of the team and their dedication to film and artistic presentation.

Morrison's Birthday Party
screened at BAFTA!
Morrison's Birthday Party, produced and directed by Frame On Frame's Trevor Hughes, enjoyed its debut screening at BAFTA on 21st May 2009. The evening was a huge success and the film received very positive feedback - a great start to its world festival tour.
Inspired by Alexander Sokurov's one-shot feature 'Russian Ark', this ambitious and adventurous experimental film was shot in less than 100 minutes, in only one take. The film merges the styles of Mike Leigh and Ken Loach. Twenty-four actors took part, and although they worked to a plot, the dialogue was improvised, with no rehearsals beforehand. Only lead actor Morrison was made aware of the final scene before the shoot.
Wealthy tea merchant Morrison is turning 69. He decides to celebrate in style and throws a lavish garden party for his friends and family on a balmy midsummer night. What should be a happy occasion rapidly deteriorates into a night of unresolved conflict and shocking revelations. Details can be viewed here.

SYNOPSIS
Friendship is the term used to de-note the co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more beings. (Wikipedia 2008).
Directors Notes
I'm really please with how this short has turned out. We used improvisation to develop character and story and the film was devised, written and shot in less than a week.
We started with the play, The Boy On The Bridge, by Gareth Pilkington. I had worked with Gareth recently on, Face Value, and really liked his play when I read it. The story follows Jonjo, a homeless person who has chosen to live on a bridge. In the play Jonjo is befriended by Ziggy, a young man with autism. We had very little time to work in, we discussed the themes and characters in the play and headed off to Green Park to do some improvising.
It was pretty amazing to watch the actors to start to generate material with very little preparation. They just began to play and these characters and relationships started to emerge. It was a great lesson in the resourcefulness of an actors imagination when they are given the freedom to just run with things, and when they have a good natural understanding between each other.
Initially I was concerned about being able to structure the improvisations into a script, but once I got into it it was quite a fun to put together. The actors had created the characters so well in such a short space of time which really helped with the dialogue. The theme started to hang around this idea of odd relationships, looking for company and the whole question of, "What is friendship?"
We shot the whole thing one morning, early Autumn 2008 in Brockwell Park in Brixton. It was quite a simple exercise but really rewarding and a great learning experience

SYNOPSIS
Robert and Phoenix are brothers. One with a drinking problem over lost childhood, the other with a guilty conscious and low self-esteem. They have never talked about there abusing dead father or about there true feelings, not until one steps over the line and steels the others lover.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Directing BB was a difficult task to capture the correct emotion of the Brothers from a Brotherly Birthday drink to the final scene, I believe I kept the film moving forward to the final scene with ever increasing tension and emotion.
